Capacitance currents in power electronics devices and apparatus

Using physical simulation it is shown experimentally that capacitance currents in electrical apparatus under high rate of voltage increase (decrease) (dU/dt) facilitate the arising of barrier discharges. The latter result in accelerated aging of isolation and may be a cause of apparatus failure because of electrical breakdown. The functioning of electrical capacitors under pulse conditions was investigated.
