We present new results of theoretical and experimental studies of the interaction of the ionizing radiation photons with various substances. In particular, the photoelectric effect and Compton scattering of these photons are examined. Using a new developed method of determining the ratio of the number of Compton electrons to the number of photoelectrons, the corresponding results for molybdenum and tungsten have been obtained for the first time. Analysis of the results showed that there are significant discrepancies between previous theoretical calculations and experimental data.
