A theoretical treatment is presented of the experimental results obtained by the authors and also by the other researchers earlier. These results concern phenomenon of ejection of beams of the accelerated and multiply charged ions, which has been observed at the initial stage of firing of the vacuum sparks. It is shown that the principal features of the ion beams, in particular, peculiarities of their acceleration could be explained by suggestion on occurrence of a micropinch within the cathode flame expanding into the vacuum ambient.
